The first cooperative preschool in Georgia

From the Galley Kitchen to the Outdoor Classroom, IPCP Parent Teachers are Everywhere at IPCP!

Parent Teaching, when parents participate in school life by working with their child’s class and one other classroom, is an integral part of IPCP’s cooperative philosophy. Parent teachers not only provide support for teachers, they also share their children’s school experience. Just as our preschoolers have the opportunity to try out favorite occupations through their imaginative play in the Big Room, when IPCP parents serve as Parent Teachers, they get the chance to wear many hats, from Chef to Artist to Honorary-Swing-Pusher to Teacher.

A typical Parent Teacher day begins when your preschooler proudly escorts you into the school building and you set out the snack you’ve brought in the school kitchen.

A glance at the Parent Teacher task list on the kitchen door and a quick check with your teachers gives an idea of the jobs that might come your way throughout the morning.

One Parent Teacher may prepare the playground while another helps a teacher put out supplies for an art project. Others may be readying the Outdoor Classroom for a special event. Parent Teachers have presided over everything from cookie-baking to guitar singalongs. Throughout the morning, you may find yourself reading a story to a circle of rapt preschoolers, unpacking lunch boxes, or telling your own child “good job!” as they help clean up the classroom at the end of a busy school day. By serving as Parent Teachers, parents become important members of the Inman Park Preschool “family.”

IPCP is a non-profit organization comprised of all parents or guardians of children attending the preschool.
At an annual meeting, the parent body elects a board of directors that includes officers, committee heads, and members-at-large. Monthly board meetings are open to all parents.
